Types of Zombies

With the impending zombie apocalypse upon us, I thought that this would be a good time to go over all the different type of zombies that are out there. Knowing what kind of zombie you are up against will greatly increase your odds of survival.

Night of the living dead zombies: This is one of the very first zombies to come into the scene if you will. This will be, for all intents and purposes, your basic movie zombie. There is no real reason for them being zombies other than just some type of supernatural reason. These zombies are dead people that have risen and don’t have an interest in making more zombies. They just have an interest in eating human brains.

Virus Zombies: These zombies are your sci-fi variety, as their condition can be explained by science and is considered as being due to a virus / disease. Once you are bitten, or come into contact by some other means with the virus, after you die you will rise as a zombie or a walker. Like the Night of the Living Dead these zombies are also flesh eating.

Caribbean/Voodoo Zombies: The original zombie, and oddly enough the most documented of them all, this zombie may actually be real. There are a few reported cases of people being brought back to life as zombies. These, unlike any of the movie zombies, do not eat flesh. Instead, they are brought back to life by a Voodoo priest for the sole purpose of being a slave for said Voodoo priest. This is done with a mixture of herbs and a chemical found in the puffer fish.

Vampire Zombies: In I am Legend by Richard Matheson, people start to contract a virus and become these flesh eating vampire zombie creatures. So, I am going to make the leap for arguments sake that vampirism is a form of zombie, but vampires have more brain power at their disposal than a typical zombie.

Mummy Zombies: OK, I know I said that Voodoo zombies where the original zombies, but now I am introducing mummies into the mix. While historical mummies don’t rise from the dead, movie mummies do, and what are they but the walking dead, hence zombies. They are supernatural in nature but still the walking dead are a type of zombie, just one with a curse attached, and not a virus.

More likely in preparation for the upcoming zombie apocalypse we would probably just have to worry about virus related zombies or drug induced zombies, but just so you’re prepared for December 2012 it would be good if you knew that the Mayan did also make mummies.
